🏛️ Historical Context

Valentinian III ascended to the Western Roman throne as a child in 425 CE under the regency of his mother, Galla Placidia, and general Flavius Aetius. His reign saw the empire facing mounting pressure from Vandals, Huns, and Goths. Notably, under Aetius, the Romans achieved victory against Attila the Hun at the Battle of the Catalaunian Plains in 451 CE. Valentinian’s assassination in 455 CE marked further instability in the waning Western Empire. Coins from his reign are rare and highly valued for their connection to this turbulent historical period.
