A scarce and historically important Thaler featuring the joint rule of brothers John Casimir and John Ernest. This coin was struck during their short-lived partnership as Dukes of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld, just prior to the principality’s division in 1596, when each assumed authority over separate dominions within the Holy Roman Empire.
