Offered here is a historic piece of shipwreck treasure: a 1715 Mexican 2 Escudos, recovered from the legendary Plate Fleet disaster.
In July 1715, two treasure fleets set sail from the New World for Europe. Of the twelve ships, eleven were lost to a devastating hurricane off the coast of Florida. While some treasure was salvaged soon after, coins from this wreck still occasionally wash ashore to this day.
